Carnivals in France

In France in the late winter – early spring is held 4 large carnival . The Grand carnival — in nice. Also known carnivals in Paris. Lima (near the border with Spain) and in Dunkerque (on the border with Belgium).

Carnival in nice

The largest and oldest carnival in France is held in nice . Its roots go back to the year 1294. From the middle ages to our days every year, the streets of nice naprawde colorful images in masks, collecting tourists from around the world. More than a million visitors come to the carnival of nice in our time. Nice carnival lasts for two weeks before lent.

In 2014, the carnival of nice runs from February 14 until March 4.

Carnival in Paris

Carnival in Paris is held before the Feast of Fools already from the 16th century or even earlier, although not carried out in the period from 1952 to 1957 As a rule, the carnival starts at 14:00 on the East side of the city and walking through the streets, ends at around 19:00 in front of city hall (Hotel de Ville).

You will find a great procession, headed by a live Longhorn cow! Music, whistles, streamers, confetti and colored balls illuminated with a gray city in bright colors.

This year the carnival will be held in Paris on 2 March 2014.

Carnival in Limoux

Carnival in Limoux in the Languedoc-Roussillon has been held annually since the year 1604. It differs from other typical masks, a little reminiscent of your elegance Venetian mask.

The carnival takes place on selected days from January to March.

According to the tradition, which dates back to the 14th century, the millers were released from their contributions to the Dominican monastery at Prouille Mardi Gras (fat Tuesday before lent). They celebrated this event, passing through the city streets accompanied by menestreau and distributing beans and flour.

Carnival in Dunkerque

Carnival in Dunkerque is one of the largest and most colourful carnivals in Europe. The tradition of this carnival is rooted in the 17th century and is based on vischerbende . when the fishermen went from one café to another accompanied by their friends and relatives before heading to sea to Iceland.

The carnival lasts from late January to early March.
